point2point AC Coupled Analogue Fibre Optic Links

PPM’s point2point range of AC Analogue Fibre Optic Links are high performance analogue data transmission systems, which provide great benefits to users who require a solution to electrical interference and signal attenuation problems in signal monitoring and distribution over distance.

The user applies an RF signal to the input of the Optical Transmitter. The signal is amplified and conditioned, and converted into an optical signal for transmission over the optical fibre. At the Optical Receiver, the optical signal is converted back into an electrical signal. Due to the analogue nature of this technique, the link may be used to convey data of almost any format within the specified frequency limits.

Module

The low noise figure of the point2point system allows the link to be used in DEF STAN 59-411 testing including DRE04 Electric Field Radiated Emissions Installed Antenna.  The low noise figures of the point2point links enable detection and measurement of small disturbances, even when a considerable distance is required from the DUT.

Frequently asked questions about point2point modules

Key Features
  • Wide, flat frequency response for accurate transmission of broadband signals
  • Electrically screened Shielded Remote Module option for operation in high levels of electrical interference
  • A range of input and output signal levels
  • Suitable for all modulation formats
  • Wide dynamic range to permit simultaneous monitoring of low and high level signals
  • Visual indication of received optical signal level at Receiver
Key Benefits
  • Immunity to electrical interference, so the signal is not corrupted by radiated interference
  • Low loss, enabling very long path lengths with negligible degradation of signal-to-noise
  • Frequency response independent of path length
  • Non-conductive providing an intrinsically safe transmission path for the monitoring of equipment at hazardous voltages
  • Highly flexible and small diameter cable
